Kheech – Traditional Rajasthani Recipe (Auspicious)

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup broken wheat
  • 1/4 cup split green gram (Dhuli Moong ki dal)
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 teaspoon ginger
  • 2 green chillies
  • 1/4 cup coriander leaves (chopped)
  • 2 cloves
  • 1 cardamom
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon red chilly powder
  • 1 cup water , boiled
  • Salt to taste
  • Almonds (optional)

Method

Step 1

Wash and soak dal and broken wheat in 1 cup water for 20 minutes.

Step 2

Heat a pressure cooker and dry-roast the cumin seeds , cloves , and cardamom followed by ginger and garlic. Keep the flame low while roasting.

Step 3

Add onions , green chillies , tomatoes and peas. Stir for a minute and then add salt , turmeric powder and chilly powder.

Step 4

Stir lightly and add the soaked dal and broken wheat.

Step 5

Mix well and add 1 cup of hot water.

Step 6

Cook for 3 whistles, and make sure you let the steam escape before opening the lid. Serve with Almonds chopped if there are guests.
